Notable Supreme Mages

Qualifications of a Supreme Mage

The system of Supreme Mage has only been formally in existence since the creation of the institutes and the council of archmages. The council of archmages consist of 4 archamges from each institute, that together decide whether a potential archmage has exhibited magic befitting of the title. The Council of Archmages decide many magic related matters and have limited each institute to only hosting one Supreme Mage each, mostly due to the extreme expenses necessary to elevate and attract supreme mages. As such, any extra Supreme Mages need undeniable magic prowess and approval by all three institutes to be instituted. This happens mostly rarely.

Before the Council of Archmages, the title of Supreme Mage technically did not exist. However, the Council of Archmages has retroactively given the Supreme Mage title to a few candidates they deemed to be of appropriate power. The most notable of these is Erwin, who si known as the strongest mage to ever exist.

Current Supreme Mages

Willaker the Windeater, Supreme Mage of Windsor

Willaker the Windeater is the Supreme Mage of Windsor and a master of all magic relating to winds, storms and lightning. He is named after the historical Supreme Mage Willaker and is from a lower noble family, although he has later cut ties with them due to their inferior status. Willaker's signature spell is the Everstorm, which summons a huge, controllable storm that Willaker can move freely through. Willaker the Windeater is known for being snobby, but disciplined. He spends most of his time away from the institutes, preferring to reside in storms and on mountains. His current project is creating the perfect storm conduit.

Poelanom the Restrained, Supreme Mage of Haggen

Poelanom the Restrained is the Supreme Mage of Haggen and a master of all magic relating to restriction, paralysis and conditions. He chose his own name after becoming Supreme Mage and his origins are for the most part shrouded in mystery, a situation Poelanom is keen to maintain. Poelanom's signature spell is 1000-lashed chains, which shoots forth an incredible amount of restraints to hurt and bind a large number of targets. Poelanom is known for being jolly, if a bit eccentric. He spends a lot of time inspiring students at Haggen, although rarely as himself. He is an avid user of the Alter Self spell and is currently researching how shapeshifting and true forms work.

Wizful the Wonderful, Supreme Mage of Zane

Wizful the Wonderful is the Supreme Mage of Zane and a master of hextech contraptions. His elevation to Supreme Mage is unique, as his magic mostly takes the form of hextech creations and is considerably less flashy as a result. Wizful's signature spell is his Hex Double, which is a hextech contraption that is him. The church has refrained to comment on the religious and moral implications of this double. His current project is trying to recreate his Hex Double again, which would allow him to make even more Wizfuls. His work is not well understood and most professors at Zane keep a wide distance from Wizful.

Kal the Apocalypse, Independent Supreme Mage

Kal the Apocalypse is an Independent Supreme Mage and argueably the strongest of the current group and definitely the most destructive. Kal received the title "The Apocalypse" for the massive destruction caused the first time he successfuly cast his signature spell. Kal's signature spell is Meteor, sometimes named "True Meteor" or "Kal's Meteor", which summons a gigantic meteor to slam down into an area. Depending on casting time and circumstances, the impact of the meteor can be strong enough to wipe out smaller towns, which it did the first time cast. The meteor can also host Kal inside it, something which he uses to get the jump on unsuspecting survivors. As he is independent, most of his day to day business is unknown and he does not appear to have any focused projects. Kal is generally disliked by all powerful mages.

Previous Supreme Mages

Erwin the Creator, The Absolute Mage

Erwin the Creator was a Supreme Mage that was around before the rise of the King, in the era of the Saints. He is famous for being the strongest mage at the time and it is believed that there was never an equal to him after his untimely demise in the event known as the Grand Dragonflight. Erwin invented many spells during his time, the most famous being Spirit Break and Force Break. However, his signature spell was True Creation, a spell which is known for having dramatic reality-altering properties. The exact details of the spell is unknown as the ones affected either die, disappear or are unable to accurately recall what happened. Erwin was a large believer in power segregation and stated that "Never shall the hand of the mighty crush the throat of the weak". This curried favor with the general populace and Erwin spent a lot of time fighting and defeating what he believed to be malicious or ignorant mages and people of power. Erwin was always presumed to return, due to his avid use of Forceful Entry, clone and phylacteries, but after Grand Dragonflight, the remaining dragons levelled all of his lairs to the ground. Some assumed that Erwin would eventually return, but his 600 years of absence has made most mages hopeful that their superior was gone forever.

Willaker the Worldfire, Architect of the Burning of Holm

Willaker the Worldfire was a Supreme Mage a little earlier than Erwin, around the time of the Conqueror. An infamous mage, Willaker was in many ways a polar opposite to Erwin. Viewing magic users as superiors to those he called "materials", Willaker always had a haughty attitude and would treat those around him as disposable. Despite this, he is still revered as one of the most influential mages of all time. He was the original mage to conceive of and formalise the mathetmatics behind 10th grade magic. This included developing the infamous spell Power Word: Cataclysm which was used to genocide the majority of orcs. Willaker later became the first human mage in Kairn to cast a 10th grade spell, casting his infamous Worldfire spell, summoning the "hottest flames of hell" to scourge battlefields. Willaker was killed by Erwin in the Grand wars of the Magus, which left huge scars on the world.
