Bagels

Makes 6 bagels, Takes about 2hr30

Ingredients:

Preparation:

  1. Dissolve the yeast in the water. In a bowl mix the flour with the salt, the oil and the honey. Add the yeast mix and mix well until you have a consistent dough.
  2. Cover the bowl and let rise in a warm place until the dough doubles in volume (about 1 hr).
  3. In the meantime, sauter the onions if you choose to include some and prepare your toppings.
  4. Preheat the oven to 225ºC.
  5. Once the dough has risen enough, shape it into 6 balls, add the toppings and grains of your choice, and make a hole in the middle of the ball.
  6. Boil some water and add the malt extract. Place one bagel after the other in the boiling water for 30 sec. on each side.
  7. Place each bagel on a baking sheet and spread the egg beaten with the milk on them.
  8. Bake them in the oven for 20-25 min.

Comments:

Use your imagination and add various toppings and grains on and in your bagels. Do not keep them in the fridge but freeze them if you are not going to eat them immediately.
