Nan bread

Serves 4, Takes 3 hr 45

Ingredients:

Preparation:

  1. Warm the yogurt and stir in the milk. Mix thoroughly. Remove from heat.
  2. Add the baking soda, the sugar, 2 tbs. of butter/margarine, the eggs, and the yeast.
  3. In another bowl, sift together the flour and the salt. Add the yogurt mix and mix well.
  4. Work the dough until it is smooth and elastic. Brush the dough with some butter/margarine, cover and let rise in a warm place for 3 hr.
  5. Once the dough has risen enough, work it into 8 balls. Flatten each ball into a 10 inch pancake. Shape the pancakes into an oval size, cover them and let them rise for 20 more min.
  6. Preheat the oven on grill.
  7. Heat a frying pan. Mix the remaining butter/margarine and sesame seeds. Brush this mix on one side of the nan and brush the other side with warm water.
  8. Place the warm water side of the nan on the frying pan for about 30 sec.
  9. Place the nan breads on a baking pan and grill them in the oven for 2 min. Serve warm.

Comments:

This in an Indian recipe so I suggest you serve it with some kind of curry dish. It's not the easiest bread to make but it is well worth it! You can also use your imagination to vary the seeds you use.
