Rahman-Jackson
Fusion proves a big hit
Melodious strains of 'Satyameva Jayate' (Truth alone shall Triumph) by
music wizard
A.R.Rahman provided an appropriate icing to an enchanting concert by pop
king Michael Jackson in Munich on Sunday night in aid of the world's
poor children. In the fusion experiment promoted by the Hinduja Family
Rahman and his fellow artistes including Shobana and Prabhudeva, rung
the curtains down on the nine-hour open air concert after Jackson
electrified a 55000 strong audience with his famous numbers including
'We are the world' at the gigantic Olympic Stadium. Jackson who briefly
joined the finale performance with the Indian troupe gave a rendition of
the English translation of the Sanskrit verse and Rahman's number 'Ekam
Satyam'(One Truth) with folded hands wearing a white outfit designed by
Indian fashion designer Manish Malhotra. Jackson however had to cut
short his
performance after 35 minutes for a hospital treatment for unspecified
reasons.
Vinoo S. Hinduja daughter of Srichand Hinduja who initiated the fusion
move said " I hope this little effort of mine would make the world
savour the richness of Indian music." In the sequence choreographed
by Raju Sundaram with lead vocals and music by Rahman, Shobana and
Prabhudeva preformed a fusion of modern and classical Indian
dances with 30 German dancers participating. The concert proceeds would
go to charities and aid agencies and a children's fund set up by former
South African President Nelson Mandela.
